Backyard Sports Sandlot Sluggers is an awesome kid and family friendly video game designed and built by Atari. For this latest iteration of BYS Atari contacted Pop Design Works, an uber-creative marketing and interactive design company, to create a site design and a series of flash games that compliment the updated style and character of their latest game.
After the design of the site was approved, Pop asked us to begin development in earnest. The general site structure was implemented with Drupal (the best CMS/F ever). Most of the displays are controlled through CCK, Views, and Panels. This allows the site administrator (content admin) to update sections of the website via the content creation section. This saves most people (non-Drupalers) many headaches that are usually associated with blocks, regions, path globs, and so forth.
Virtually all features of this site are available through core or contributed modules that are freely availble at Drupal.org which greatly improved development speed. There was one module, page_block, that had to be created. This module is a very handy utility module that allows a site admin to turn any page callback (eg. contact) into a block that can then be easily dropped into a panel. We will be releasing this module soon so stay tuned!
